এই প্রবন্ধের উদ্দেশ্য হলো ১৯৩৭-৪৭ কালপর্বে লিখিল ভারত মুসলিম লীগ কেন জনপ্রিয় হয়েছিল তা অনুসন্ধান করা| ১৯০৬ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত মুসলিম লীগ ১৯৩৫ সালের ভারত শাসন আইনের অধীনে অনুষ্ঠিত ১৯৩৭ এর নির্বাচনে মুসলিম ভোটের মাত্র ৪.৪% ভোট পেল| এই দলই ১৯৪৫-৪৬ এর নির্বাচনে মুসলিম ভোটের ৭৫% ভোট পেল কিভাবে? উল্লিখিত কালপর্বে মুসলিম লীগ কেন জনপ্রিয়তা পেয়েছিল? এই গবেষণাকর্মের মাধ্যমে জানা যায়, ১৯৩৭ এর নির্বাচন এবং ১৯৩৭-৩৯ কংগ্রেস মন্ত্রিসভা মুসলিম মানসে এই অনুভূতির জন্ম দেয়, স্বতন্ত্র নির্বাচকমণ্ডলী সর্বভারতীয় পর্যায়ে মুসলমানদের সংখ্যালঘুর মর্যাদার বেশী কিছু দিবে না| তাই মুসলমানরা চিন্তা করল-গণতান্ত্রিক ব্যবস্থায় সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠের যে শাসনব্যবস্থা সেটাতে শুধুই ‘হিন্দু কংগ্রেস’ ভাবিকালের ভারতবর্ষকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করবে, তাই অন্য পন্থা খুঁজতে হবে।
