Duties of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to the Journal of Social Science and Humanities (JSSH) are expected to comply with the journal’s academic, ethical, and publication requirements.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original, that they have the necessary rights to submit it, and that the manuscript complies with the journal’s policies.

  1. Originality and Exclusivity

Authors must submit original work that has not been previously published.

A manuscript submitted to JSSH must not simultaneously be under consideration by another journal. Authors must immediately inform the editorial office if the manuscript is submitted elsewhere after submission to JSSH.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript does not contain plagiarism, fabricated or falsified information, or inappropriate reuse of previously published material.

  1. Accuracy and Integrity

Authors must present their research accurately and honestly.

Data, findings, quotations, references, and other research information must not be fabricated, falsified, or deliberately misrepresented.

Authors should acknowledge the limitations of their research where appropriate.

  1. Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, research, analysis, interpretation, or preparation of the manuscript.

All listed authors should:

  • have made a meaningful contribution to the work;
  • have approved the submitted version;
  • agree to the submission to JSSH; and
  • accept responsibility for the integrity of the work.

Individuals who have not made a substantial scholarly contribution should not be listed as authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the journal and ensuring that all co-authors are aware of and agree to the submission.

  1. Acknowledgement of Contributions

Authors should appropriately acknowledge individuals, institutions, research assistance, financial support, data collection assistance, or other contributions that do not qualify for authorship.

  1. Ethical Research

Authors must comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements relating to their research.

Where applicable, manuscripts should provide information regarding ethical approval, informed consent, protection of participants, confidentiality, and other relevant ethical considerations.

  1. Citations and References

Authors must properly acknowledge all sources used in their research.

JSSH requires authors to follow APA 7th edition referencing and citation style.

Authors must not manipulate citations or add irrelevant references merely to increase citation counts.

  1. Plagiarism and Similarity

All submitted manuscripts may be screened for plagiarism and inappropriate textual similarity.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is appropriately cited and that all borrowed ideas, words, data, images, tables, and other materials are properly acknowledged.

JSSH generally expects the similarity index to be 20% or below, subject to editorial assessment. A similarity score alone does not determine whether a manuscript constitutes plagiarism; the editorial team may assess the nature and sources of the identified similarities.

  1. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of their manuscript.

Where generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted tools have been used in preparing the manuscript, authors should disclose such use where appropriate and in accordance with the journal’s policy.

AI tools must not be listed as authors.

Authors must carefully verify AI-assisted content, including factual statements, references, quotations, data, and interpretations. Authors remain responsible for any errors or inappropriate content generated or assisted by AI tools.

  1. Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors should state this clearly.

  1. Funding

Authors should disclose the source of financial or institutional support for the research, where applicable.

If the research received no specific funding, this should be stated where appropriate.

  1. Data and Research Materials

Where appropriate and ethically permissible, authors should provide sufficient information about their data, research materials, methods, and procedures to enable readers and researchers to understand and evaluate the research.

Authors must respect privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and restrictions imposed by research participants or institutions.

  1. Copyright and Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material, including photographs, figures, tables, substantial quotations, or other materials owned by third parties.

Authors must properly acknowledge all third-party material.

  1. Revisions

When a manuscript is returned for revision, authors should carefully respond to the reviewers’ and editors’ comments.

Authors should provide a clear explanation of how each substantive comment has been addressed. Where an author disagrees with a reviewer’s suggestion, the response should provide a reasonable academic justification.

Revised manuscripts should be submitted within the deadline specified by the editorial office.

  1. Correction of Errors

If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they should promptly notify the editorial office and cooperate with the journal in correcting the record.

  1. Responsibility for the Manuscript

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  • all authors have approved the manuscript;
  • the information provided during submission is accurate;
  • all required declarations have been completed;
  • the manuscript complies with JSSH requirements; and
  • all authors are aware of the journal’s publication policies.

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in rejection, withdrawal, correction, or other appropriate editorial action.
